Founded in 1995, The Jacksonville Center for the Arts has since been preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of this region. Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge mountains, we are surrounded by the natural beauty of rural life and the diverse talent that has been drawn to the endless resources of this special place. In keeping with our preservation mission, our main building is a renovated 1940’s dairy barn, our pottery studio is what used to serve as the creamery, and the tradition of hand-crafting excellence continues to flourish. Our Center is a culmination of natural beauty, artistic talent, and community involvement that fosters and nurtures the inherent creativity in all of us.
With our commitment to artistic excellence, our instructors are selectively chosen for the expertise they each hold in their medium, their teaching ability, and their enthusiastic willingness to share those skills with their students.
Our program continues to offer courses in: Blacksmithing, Ceramics and Glassworking and now extends to courses broken down by discipline including: Jewelry, Fiber, Sculpture, Two-Dimensional Arts and for the first time ever, Wood classes. This year’s program includes one week exclusively committed to Kids camp, ages 5-16; and one week to celebrate family learning with Intergenerational Classes. There is a wide variety of scheduling options and we invite you to be part of this enriching and inspiring place that is both progressive and historical.
Pulling all of this together is the team that makes the Jacksonville Center what it is today. From a group of very dedicated board and staff members and volunteers here at the ole’ barn, we extend a warm welcome and hope you can be part of this growing tradition.
