Quilting
Nancy Moore
Wednesdays, March 19 – May 7, 9:30am – 12noon

Students will review basics in the first session (preparing fabric, cutting, templates, slashing and binding). We will construct 12” blocks, plus paper piecing Seminole Indian patchwork and Flying Geese. Beginners are welcome.

Leather 101

Tuesdays, April 1 – 29, 6pm – 9pm

Students will be introduced to the basics of leather working to include but not limited to: tooling, lacing and pattern-making. Class projects will include a business card case and a leather belt, among others. Individual projects are encouraged. No experience is necessary.

Dyeing Fabric for Quilters and all Fiber Enthusiasts

Saturday, April 12, 10am – 3pm

Students will learn simple low water immersion dyeing and gradation dyeing in plastic bags, one fat quarter per bag. They will go home with 12 fat quarters (3 yards) of dyed fabric. This is a beginning dye class.

Shibori

Monday – Wednesday, July 28 – 30, 9am – 4:30pm

Students will use different methods of Japanese resist dyeing on cotton and silk, stitching, clamping and scrunching. All skill levels are welcome.

Laminated Felting

Thursday and Friday, July 31 – August 1, 9am – 4:30pm

Students will be felting fine merino wool into a silk fabric base to make scarves. We will also permanently dye our silk with Kool-Aid. All skill levels are welcome.

Intro to Spinning

Saturday, August 30, 9am – 12noon

Learn to make your own yarn using a drop spindle and wool. Along with the basic techniques of spinning, students will also learn about fiber selection and preparation, plying, and finishing techniques. No previous experience is required.

Weaving I

Saturday, August 30, 1pm – 5pm

Learn the basics of weaving on a frame loom. This class will focus on weave structures that create surface texture with loops and areas of woven lace. Students will work on samplers to practice these techniques. No previous experience is required.

Weaving II

Sunday, August 31, 1pm – 5pm

Using simple frame looms, students will explore traditional techniques for weaving images and shapes. Tapestry produces a solid surface, while the "transparency" technique creates an image that floats on a nearly transparent background. No previous experience is required.

Bobbin Lace

Friday – Sunday, September 19 – 21, 9am – 4:30pm

Students will learn the movements and basic stitches to create bobbin lace edgings or motifs. Lessons are based on the traditional color coding from Belgium. No experience is necessary.
